Graduate School Planning

A significant number of Baylor students wish to pursue graduate or professional school after completing their undergraduate degrees.  The Career Center staff are here to help with the following:

Evaluating what types of graduate programs best fit your career goals

We can help you figure out what level of degree and which areas of study are most relevant to your career aspirations.  We can also help you in identifying schools with graduate programs in your field.  Finally, we can help you determine when is the best time to begin your degree and formulate a timeline for key steps in the graduate school planning and application process.

Identifying internships and related opportunities that will strengthen your application

The hardest and most-challenging aspect of a competitive graduate school application is gaining the experience and accomplishments needed to stand out.  Relevant experience is critical when writing a compelling personal statement or responding effectively to behavioral interview questions.  We can help you find opportunities and employers that will strengthen your application and help you clarify your career goals even further.

Reviewing CVs, Résumés, and personal statements for graduate school applications

Do you know the difference between a CV and a résumé?  Though the terms are sometimes used interchangeably, they are actually quite different.  It is key to know which document is best suited for your circumstances.  Our staff can walk you through this and review your personal statement.  The personal statement can often be the most important component of your entire application, so it is essential to get it right.

Locating gap year opportunities

In many fields, it is common for students to take time off before applying to graduate or professional school.  We can help you locate employment opportunities that will help you strengthen your resume, while also earning an income.
